Wireless electricity monitors that are available today are really simple to fit. One of the great things about the real time monitors is you can install it yourself in under 5 minutes without ever touching a live wire!

All of the wireless energy monitors for home use operate in the same way. The way they differ is just by look and the amount of data that is displayed.

The average home will save £75 per year by using an energy monitor.

Latest Developments

The last month has seen some really exciting developments by two of the main manufactures. Current Cost has introduced two exciting products. The Current Cost IAM (Individual Appliance Monitor) and the Current Cost Bridge Unit. Eco-eye is rolling out a number of new innovations including the Eco-eye Smart Monitor.

Current Cost New Products

The Envi CC128 Wireless Energy Monitor has been around for a while and keeps improving. The Envi is currently the only monitor that has 9 additional channels. These channels can be used to monitor different circuits in your home or business. You just need a separate transmitter. For example if you wanted to monitor your heating and lighting circuits - simple connect the clamps around the specific supplies. This is really useful especially if you connect the Envi to your computer via a data cable. With lots of free software available you can record your energy use history.

Current Cost Bridge

This smart device acts as a bridge between your energy monitor and wireless router or network. The Bridge sends data direct to a web portal such as those provided by Current Cost or Pachube. With this hook up you can view your energy use online from your smart phone or PC. Check out the Current Cost Bridge here.

Current Cost Bridge

Current Cost IAM

These plug in devices basically send the energy use of any appliance that has a three pin plug. They pair with your Envi Energy Monitor on a separate channel. This makes it really simple to identify where you are spending most on electricity. Sold in packs of three for a reasonable £29.95 they add another dimension to your system. One of the unique selling points of the Current Cost Products is the Modular nature. In other words you can add the data cables, bridge or Iams at your leisure to build up a really detailed analysis. Check out the Current Cost IAM here.

These include the truly unique Eco-eye Smart Monitor. This offers an array of features never seen before in the Real Time Display market. The Smart exceeds the new Government CERT specification (download a copy of the CERT Update PDF). The sleek new monitor also has a memory card port for down loading data. Eco-eye has included their new TRAX software that has been in development for some time. The feature that really makes the Smart so unique is the new self-powered sensor/transmitter.
