We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch. So why would we expect an energy monitor for free? Over the past few years there have been a large number of offers from all the Large Energy Companies. One of the latest offers is the Eco Manager from EDF Energy. These Large Energy Companies spend millions of pounds advertising their free offers with promises of saving you money. The problem is as soon as you sign up to these offers - you are often put on their Standard Tariff.
As an experiment I visited uSwitch.com one of the many comparison sites. The details I used for this were £50 monthly spend for Gas and £50 monthly spend for electricity - both paid by direct debit.
I was not surprised when I found out the EDF Standard Tariff was an eye popping £256 more expensive than the cheapest online tariff.
